Tony's birthday = a trip to Wil Jenny's (his favorite restaurant). It's just a given in our family. So just like last year, and the year before that, we all met there for dinner to celebrate 33!
When my mom and I pulled up, the kids were all running around in the grass out front and enjoying the sun and warm weather...which has finally turned spring(ish). It's been a long winter, and we're all thankful to be able to get out and enjoy some fresh air!
Not wanting to have any babies (ie Hudson) fall asleep, we decided to take our obligatory family picture before dinner. Turned out it didn't matter, because there is no way we could ever get everybody to take a good picture at once.
Hadley: not interested in taking a picture at all Hudson: very interested in the fans on the ceiling Hunter: just not too sure what's going on |
As good as it's going to get with three kids under the age of three |
The food came fast (thank goodness, because the kids were running around like little crazies), and it was delicious, as always. I was too buys chasing Hunter around to take many pictures, but rest assured, dessert was ordered and devoured.
We're too old to do real presents, but I did get a nice folder full of tax documents to use! The tax return will be a late birthday present this year. :)
After we were all done eating, we went outside to enjoy what was left of the sun. It was a gorgeous sunset, and the lighting was too good to resist snapping some photos!
Top Left: Hudson. Isn't he just adorable!?
Top Right: Hadley and Hunter running off in to the sun
Bottom Left: The birthday boy and his little man
Bottom Right: Me and my favorite girl!
Hunter and I walked around the parking lot collecting lots of "baby rocks" before he had to go. Seriously, it was the cutest. He held each one up to show me and proclaimed in his sweet little voice, "TeeTee! TeeTee! Beebee wock!!" I died ever time. Everything he sees now that is little automatically gets the word "baby" put in front of it. (Baby trash-trucks, etc.)
Snapped these pics on my way home. The evening colors just blow me away sometimes.
I could barely drive for trying to soak all of this up:

Wil Jenny's has always been our "go-to" spot for any event -- birthdays, holidays, whatever. I can't even count how many times we've been there. I mean, my brother even got married there!
The morning after the birthday celebration, we got some horrible news about our favorite restaurant. More than one person sent me a link to this article:

CITYSCAPE
Wil Jenny’s closing in south Overland Park
March 11
BY JOYCE SMITH
The Kansas City Star
After nearly eight years of operations, Wil Jenny’s is closing
Kevin Timmons and Doug Watkins opened the restaurant in October 2006, next to their Nick & Jake’s restaurant in Overland Park. They describe it as having “Tex Mex, barbecue, coldest beers and cheapest margaritas north of the Red River.”
It was named after Watkins’ son Wil and Timmons’ daughter Jennifer. Timmons, a Texas native, included some home state favorites like hand-cut steaks grilled over hickory charcoal, brisket and burnt ends, Dr. Pepper baby back ribs, southern-fried pecan chicken and blue corn chicken nachos.
Timmons said sales were steady at the restaurant at 6700 W. 135th St. But the partners wanted to concentrate on their Nick & Jake’s brand.
“We want to take all of our energy and focus on the Nick & Jake’s. It’s more of an American grill, chef-driven with an upscale sports theme,” he said.
Wil Jenny’s will close after business tonight. The restaurant has nearly 50 employees.
“We just want to say thank you to the Overland Park community for their support over the last eight years,” Timmons said.
__________________________________________________It was a sad, sad day for us. I guess we will have to find another "favorite restaurant" that serves chicken fried steak and fried ice cream for our next get-together!
